10 for $10 @ Terminal 5, NYC-Drew Kassl

Yes, It's a recesion folks, but our good friends over at indiemerchstore, Facedown Records, Century Media Records, Pitchfork Hardwear, Bridge Nine Records, Peta2, Black N Blue Productions, Hollywood Music TV, Ferret Music, and The Agency Group present the 10 for $10 tour.

Ten quality bands for ten dollars, headlined by Poison The Well, who will be performing on every date, and on separate legs of the tour headline spots from Madball, Bane and Vision Of Disorder. Also appearing will be established bands with rabid followings such as Terror, Death Before Dishonor, War Of Ages, Crime In Stereo, Trapped Under Ice, The Mongoloids, The Ghost Inside, This Is Hell and Vision.

Speaking on the creation of the tour booking guru Tim Borror of The Agency Group said, “This tour is important because hardcore music is a lifestyle and has been an inspiration to the people who get involved and know what the movement and music is all about. In the last few years the crowds have been a bit smaller than what they should be and we hope an idea like this where kids are getting an opportunity to check out a lot of bands for cheap will inspire some new kids to come out, get involved and become a part of this scene to help it grow.”

Echoing the sentiment
Freddy Cricien of Madball said, “This 10 for 10 tour concept is way overdue in my opinion. I'm glad and thankful, that the people involved, stepped up to actually make something like this happen! Our genre (Hardcore) in the states, is in a "strange" place right now. There is somewhat of a lack of appreciation for this "sub-culture". A lot of people want to say they know certain bands, or are affiliated with this underground scene,etc,etc... Because it gives them some credibility, it sounds cool! Well, this is everyone's chance to re-introduce themselves, and actually get involved with a very unique and authentic genre/movement. It's also a chance for all of us, the bands, to show our stuff as well!”

Poison The Well's guitarist, Ryan Primack, says, "This tour is really exciting to us as it shows some massive diversity that occurs in the hardcore scene. I think it's really amazing that Tim put this group of bands together. Some of bands on this tour have really shaped the good things that are happening in hardcore right now. Without some of the bands on this tour I doubt we would even be a band. Were honored and privileged to be sharing the stage with them." Poison The Well's new album, The Tropic Rot, will be released via Ferret Music July 7th.

Come out and Support.

A CELEBRATION OF THE KING OF POP in NYC - Samantha

RIP Michael and thank you for the music.

NYC MASS MOONWALK in Washington Square Park, New York brought the funky beats and the devout fans. An impromptu dance party and tribute to the late, great MJ began in the early evening Friday June 26, 2009 and ran until we just couldn't dance anymore.
Within hours, hundreds gathered--based solely on word of mouth and spontaneous viral marketing--to show their support and love for the iconic musician.

TODAY: BODY POLITIC PART 2

REPUBLIC Brooklyn and Brooklyn Art Collective is re-presenting The Body Politic TODAY, June 17! We were lucky enough to keep JUNGLE for the week so we thought, "Why not have a mid-week rock-electronica-hip-hop-ART-party?" In keeping the same spirit as the opening, there will be three awesome bands: Deaf Judges, Pegasuses-XL, and Scorpio Rising. Deaf Judges is bringing the hip-hop flavor, while Pegasuses-XL is going to get the gallery dancing with electronica-experimental; and Scorpio Rising mixes rock and disco house together for your entertainment.

If you didn't make it to The Body Politic on June 13, this is a great chance to see the exhibit and get your groove on mid-week. If you did make it to the opening there's no reason to not come through again because the energy is still to the rafters.

It's $10 to enter at 8 until midnight. Take the L to Montrose and walk around the corner to 286 Meserole Street--look for the green door.

Can't wait to see you all there.

The Body Politic: Success!

REPUBLIC Brooklyn and The Brooklyn Art Collective present The Body Politic, started out with a bang and continued to please throughout Saturday night. Those who arrived early received free record bracelets from Wrecords (made by Monkey) and had the pleasure of seeing a breathtaking performance piece by Jennifer Mills. Navigating blindly (literally), Jennifer wore a blind-fold and felt her way through a midst of inanimate household objects hung on clear string from the rafters, stopping occasionally to eat fresh fruit. Every piece in the show, from the three video projection pieces and mixed media installations to photography and paintings, was stunning and provoked much appreciation. Guests were able to see how the artists explored the anatomy, physicality, biology, and substance of the human body; its functions and failings, its fervor and vivacity, in order to extrapolate the idea of using the human body to represent a larger political, philosophical, and social whole.

The enthusiasm of the crowds really sparked as the bands begun perfomring at 9:30 and the dance-party continued as they played on until midnight. ASARanson's energy was infectious, then Buke and Gass slowed the vibe down with some awesome folky tunes. Anamanaguchi got JUNGLE bumping again, playing a few well-known hits and some high energy songs of their own. Guests danced, laughed, mingled, and overall enjoyed the massive space, the art pieces that filled it, and each other's company and rousing energy.

We are lucky to have the space throughout this week, REPUBLIC and Brooklyn Art Collective are putting on an additional Body Politic event on Wednesday June 17 from 8p to midnight. We invite all of those who were unable to make it - and those who were - to come back for more! Then there will be a gallery closing event on Friday June 19. Both events are $10 and will have live music and booze will be available. More information to follow.
